Key Considerations for Bay Area Relocation
When we began exploring new areas within the Bay Area, it became clear that several factors would influence our decision. While schools and commute times are often top priorities for many, they weren’t the driving forces behind our search.
- For us, it was all about finding a bigger house with a spacious yard.
- We were eager to indulge in gardening and outdoor activities, so a decent-sized garden was a must.
- And, let’s be honest, a pool was non-negotiable for one of us – it was a deal-breaker if it wasn’t on the cards!
Recommended Locations
Based on our wish list, we were pointed towards several promising locations:
- Woodside and Portola Valley stood out for their larger homes and generous lots.
- Los Gatos, particularly the Los Cumbres community, caught our eye with its tranquil atmosphere and community pool.
- We also considered Los Altos Hills, where we found some charming ranch-style older homes within our eventual budget of up to $5M.
- The East Bay, including Alamo and Walnut Creek, offered some fantastic houses with large lots and pools.
- Niles Canon in Fremont and Sunol were other contenders, boasting convenient access to major freeways and BART.
Budget Insights
Initially, we had set a budget cap of $2M, but it soon became apparent that we were willing to stretch to $5M. It’s worth bearing in mind that the Bay Area is notoriously pricey, and our budget deliberations were informed by comparisons to housing prices in Hong Kong – a city known for its steep property costs.
